This event celebrated the unveiling of a statue of Noor Inayat Khan, a courageous woman who died for the ideal of liberty. The installation of the statue was made possible by the Noor Inayat Khan Memorial Trust. Shrabani Basu, author of the book Spy Princess, and chair of the trust, organized and hosted this event. Noor-Un-Nisa was a poet, musician and began a career as a children's writer. As World War 2 broke out she joined the British Special Operations Executive and supported the Resistance in France. Noor's actions saved the lives of many people in Europe. Noor was captured by the Nazis. She was executed at Dachau in September of 1944. She was awarded military honors by France and Britain -- the Croix De Guerre and the George Cross, for her courage. The ceremony was held at Gordon Square in London on November 8, 2012. Princess Anne unveiled the statue of Noor Un Nisa, which was sculpted by artist Karen Newman.
